Zi Wei Dou Shu charts traditionally assign successive age ranges to the palace structure. These are commonly called 10-year luck cycles or Da Xian (大限). The age range and direction follow calculation rules involving the birth data and traditional conventions. What a decade cycle can add
Your natal chart offers a baseline map. A decade cycle asks which life domain is being highlighted in a particular period. A Career cycle may put skill, role, contribution, or public identity into sharper focus. A Property cycle can make home, stability, family resources, or workspace more salient. A Wellbeing cycle can be a useful cue to prioritize restoration and values.
Three questions to ask in any active cycle
- What domain is in focus? Name the palace without making a prediction.
- Which natal patterns connect to it? Check Life, Career, Wealth, Travel, and the question-relevant palaces.
- What real action would be sensible anyway? Choose a small preparation, boundary, conversation, or experiment.
Why “good” and “bad” timing can mislead
Periods contain opportunity and friction at the same time. A career-focused decade can involve more responsibility; a relationship-focused cycle can ask for clearer boundaries; a foundation-focused phase can feel less visibly ambitious while making future work possible. Labels like “best year” tend to erase the trade-offs that make planning useful.
Pair timing with a real-world horizon
For the next year, review commitments, finances, skills, and relationships. For three to five years, identify what compounding practice is worth building. The chart can make the reflection more memorable, but you remain responsible for the choices. Do not use timing to justify financial, medical, legal, or relationship decisions without appropriate evidence and support.
